Arena Race - (All Ages). Rider mounted at start, races to pole bending stake centered on turning line, makes a right or left turn around stake and races back to finish line. Knocking over pole disqualifies rider.

Barrel Pole Race - (All Ages). A barrel is centered in the lane 60 feet from the start/finish line. Three poles are centered in lane, the first on the turning line and the other two poles set 21 feet apart toward start/finish line. At signal, contestant races to barrel and circles it right or left, weaves poles down and back, circles barrel again either way, then races across finish line.

Barrel & Stake Race - (12-15, Women, Men). Rider races to barrel placed 30 feet from starting line, containing three stakes, picks up one stake and deposits stake in second barrel on turning line, continuing until all stakes are placed in second barrel, and races back across finish line. Rider must keep barrel to right or left at all times. Hitting horse with stake disqualifies rider. Wooden or plastic stakes 5 feel long, full round 1 to 2 inches in diameter of a light weight, and 30-gallon barrels painted white to be used. All stakes used in the event must be of the same size and material. Contestants are disqualified for knocking over a barrel or dropping a stake outside of a barrel. If a contestant accepts the position of the stakes after the contestant has them positioned, and a stake falls out of the barrel after the ready light is on, they will be disqualified.

Button Sewing Race - (12-15, Adults: Pairs-Man & Woman/Boy & Girl). Man or boy stands beside horse at starting line with envelope in hand containing button and thread fastened with needle in flap (buttons of uniform size and thread of same length). Woman or girl stands at turning line in lane opposite her partner. Man or boy runs on foot, leading horse to woman or girl, hands her the envelope, she opens it, threads the needle, sews button on man or boy’s sleeve, he mounts and races back across finish line. Buttons to be inspected by judges. Four hole buttons with one thread through each hole.

Button Sewing Race "A" - (12-15, Adults: Pairs). Same rules and regulations as Button Sewing Race (see above).

Change Race - (12-15, Adults: Pairs-Man & Woman/Boy & Girl). Man or boy mounted on bareback horse, races to his partner who is standing beyond the turning line with blanket in hand. Both saddle horse, woman or girl mounts, man or boy mounts behind her and race back across the finish line.

Change Race "A" - (12-15, Adults: Pairs). Same rules and regulations as Change Race (see above).

Cloverleaf Race - (All Ages). Contestant may start to either right or left barrel first, but must make one right turn and two left turns, or one left turn and two right turns. Barrels should be at least 20 feet from the fence. Regulation distance of 165 feet from starting line to turning line. Forty (40) feet from starting line to barrels #1 and #2, 75 feet between barrels #1 and #2. Knocking over barrel or not following the pattern disqualifies contestant. Contestant may use a running start. Start/finish line shall be 30 feet wide and shall have a bending pole covered with 4”x5’ red canvas sock at each end of line. Contestants must start and finish by crossing line between poles. 30-gallon barrels with closed end up with garden hose on rim to be used. Barrels #1 and #2 to be set 22½ feet from each side of the lane that electric timers are set in and barrel #3 to be centered on the turning line in the middle (15 ft) of the lane the timer is set in. No cloverleaf horses will be allowed to run in or out of any gates.

Cowboy Flag Race - (All Ages). 2 poles and 2 barrels (open ends up) alternating placed 40 feet apart from the turning line to starting line. Starting with a barrel on the turn line. A flag to be placed at the tip of each pole. Rider races to 1st pole and picks up the flag and deposits the flag in the 1st barrel, races to the 2nd pole and picks up flag and deposits flag in 2nd barrel, turning barrel on turn line, races home. Rider must keep poles and barrels on the same side at all times. Contestant is disqualified for knocking over barrel(s) and/or pole(s), dropping the flag(s) and breaking the pattern.

Cowhide, Mounted - (Adults: Pairs). Mounted rider at starting line races to partner, who stands ten feet beyond turning line, beside cowhide, with 20 to 30 foot rope, loose end in hand, the other end tied to the cowhide. After handing the rope to rider, horseless person gets on cowhide and is dragged across finish line by rider. The rope must not be tied hard and fast to the saddle horn.

Cut Bank Ribbon Race - (Under 8, 8-11: Pairs). Both riders mounted riding double, race across turning line to horse holder standing five feet beyond the turning line. Without the assistance of the horse holder, the riders dismount. Riders pick up Pair Sack ribbon lying on the ground directly behind the turning line centered in the lane and race on foot back across finish line holding ribbon between them. Time ends when first runner crosses line. Disqualification for dropping ribbon before crossing finish line and receiving assistance from holder in dismounting. (To ensure proper timing, place arms in air when crossing finish line.)

Figure Eight Barrels - (All Ages). A barrel is centered on turning line and another barrel is set 75 feet toward the starting line in the center of the lane. Contestant is mounted, races to turning line, makes a left or right turn around the barrel, races to the second barrel, making the opposite turn around the second barrel, returns to first barrel on turning line and makes another left or right turn (same as first turn and races to finish line. Contestant is disqualified for breaking the pattern or knocking over a barrel.

Graduated Barrel & Stake Race - (Under 8, 8-11). Rider races to barrel placed 30 feet from starting line, containing one stake for Under 8 or two stakes for 8-11, picks up one stake and deposits stake in second barrel on turning line, continuing until all stakes are placed in second barrel, and races back across finish line. Rider must keep barrel to right or left at all times. Hitting horse with stake disqualifies rider. Wooden or plastic stakes 5 feet lone, full round 1 to 2 inches in diameter of a light weight, and 30-gallon barrels painted white to be used. All stakes used in the event must be of the same size and material. Contestants are disqualified for knocking over a barrel or dropping a stake outside of a barrel. Keg Race - (All Ages). Course of six kegs 25 feet apart, centered on lane. Last keg set on turning line. Rider passes first keg to left or right and weaves kegs, turns last keg and returns, weaving kegs back and across finish line. Disqualification for jumping or knocking over kegs. Kegs to be 5-gallon plastic buckets.

Key Hole - (All Ages). Two pole bending stakes on the turning line five feet apart. Between the starting line and turning line there are two more stakes ten feet from the turning line and five feet apart. These stakes to be in line with stakes on the turning line. All stakes to be covered with 4"x5" red canvas socks. Contestant races between stakes, across turning line, turns and reverses course back between the stakes to finish line. Contestant is disqualifies for knocking over any stakes.

National Flag - (All Ages). A flag in a gallon can of sand is centered on a 30-gallon barrel placed on the turning line. Contestants race around barrel, picking up flag and return across finish line with flag visible. Flag to be white, 9 inches square, attached to a stick 5/8 inches in diameter and 18 inces long. Flag to be sticking straight up in center of can. Knocking over barrel or can disqualifies.

Pole Bending - (All Ages). Each contestant shall have a line of six poles, five feet high, 1 to 2 inches in diameter and painted white. All lanes to have uniform poles set 21 feet apart. Last pole to be centered on turning line. Contestant races to pole on the turning line, make a left or right turn, bends through and back, weaving poles, then races back across finish line. Disqualification for knocking over a pole or touching pole with hand.

Polo Turn - (All Ages). Rider races to pole centered on turning line, makes a complete circle (one & a half revolutions) around pole, then returns back across finish line. Rider may turn either right or left.

Speed Barrels - (All Ages). Three barrels per lane in a straight line, 50 feet apart, the third barrel on the turning line. At start, contestant weaves the barrels down and back, starting weave either left or right of the first barrel.

Team Arena Race - (12-15, Adults: Teams of four). Riders all start mounted. Rider #1 carrying 12-inch baron races to a pole bending stake centered on the turning line, makes a left turn and races back to rider #2 who has moved into position. Rider #1 passes baton to rider #2. Baton must be passed behind starting line before rider #2 crosses starting line. If rider drops baton, he must pick it up and remount before passing baton. Repeat procedure for riders #3 and #4. Race finishes when rider #4 crosses finish line. Team disqualified for knocking over a pole, hitting horse with baton running out of lane, or having more than one horse at a time on course between starting and turn lines. Rider #4 to wear a red arm band on arm closest to announcer as he/she starts race.
